I put my external hard drive in a VHS tape that I got at the thrift store for a buck. It makes for a good case and it was cheap. It does not have an extra cord for the power.This make it easier. There is less concern about heat too.
The tape was taken all apart, keeping the screws and throwing everything else away. Then the halves are marked where the plastic will be cut for the drive to fit. It was carefully cut to fit. Then I put it all back together.
