Referendum Question #1 is focused on the additional space we need.

A new Jackson elementary school will be built to serve 650 students. Decorah elementary will be expanded to serve 650 students. Safe Entrances will be added to each of the other schools, McLane, Fair Park, Greentree, Barton, East and West High Schools. The necessary expansion of Jackson and Decorah also covers the new safe entrances. McLane and Fair Park will have traffic flow rerouted for safety as well. Barton is receiving a new roof and Fair Parks asbestos abatement will be taken care of. The district will continue to dedicate $1 million of the normal operating budget for normal maintenance.




Referendum Question #2 is focused on Badger Middle School.

Badger will not become a twin middle school with success of question #2 passing. Much needs to be done on Badger Middle School. For example, the Office of Civil Rights has cited Badger for noncompliance with the ADA requirements. Our hallways at Badger are too narrow for the volume of children we now have in the upper floors of the building. Often people think of only the children with handicapping conditions. We have children who break limbs on a temporary basis that are significantly impacted by the conditions and family members/parents who are in wheelchairs/walkers etc. none of those individuals (including the children with handicapping conditions) can manage the building.
