WI Sen Lena Taylor gives an amazingly powerful speech during the Joint Finance Committee meeting on May 26th, 2011. She was discussing a motion Republicans passed that would prohibit individuals who refuse or fail a drug test from receiving unemployment benefits for one year, and require a one week waiting period for the benefits beginning next year (Jan 1).
In addition this motion would require that if a person fails or refuses to take a drug test required by an employer as a condition of employment, the employer must report the failure or refusal to DWD.
DWD must retain the information for the purpose of determining eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits. Individuals who refuse or fail the drug test are ineligible for unemployment benefits for the following year.
