Mosport 1985 saw the debut of Jaguar team in WSC with their XJR-6 N/A prototype.
But sadly the world lost Manfred Winkelhock in fatal crash.
In the next round in Spa '85, Steffan Bellof died, sad month for Germany...

  • I was there on the inside of turn two when the Porsche came out of the pits on cold tires and lost front grip and went into the concrete barrier on the outside at the exit of the turn. From the impact I saw, the car sideswipped the barrier and he hit his head against the wall. Then it took 30+ minutes to get him out of the car. It was disgusting the emergency response back then.

  • R.I.P. indeed. I missed that year and was there the following year and most others. I agree about the paddock area. I chatted while we waited in line-up for breakfast with Mr. David Hobbs and have up close pics of Derek Bell chatting with another driver. Nick Mason of Pink Floyd fame was there in a Rothman's Porsche with a large camera on the nose as they were making a film. never saw the film anywhere. Track is very much improved but still requires big balls to drive

  • I was there on the Thursday race weekend and spent the day in the pits. Not a single person/official/driver asked who I was or asked for credentials. Took a ton of photos hassle free. Times were different.

  • 1:59pm Friday (CST) - Time in Mississippi

  • The whole track looked like crap back then...a lot better now.

  • I was also there, at that corner, as a three year old. RIP.

  • its amazing how safety has improved in the past 25 years.... hans devices, tire barriers, safer barriers, and improvements in the structure of the cars have prevented tragedies like this from happening as often as they did in previous decades.

  • R.I.P
