Date Raped Woman Imprisoned for 40 Years

On May 22 1999, Emily Dowdy went to a bar with a friend. Emily doesn't remember much from that night, except dancing with a man and going out to her car with that man. The next thing she remembered is waking up in the hospital after being involved in a car accident, driving on the wrong way on a highway hitting another car and killing the driver. But, it wasn't just a simple case of drunk driving. Emily Dowdy believes she was given a spiked drink laced with a date rape drug, GHB, possibly raped, and then returned to her car. At the scene of the accident she was naked from the waist down. The hospital she was admitted to did not test her blood for GHB and she was not given a rape test. Now, she is serving a 40 year prison sentence for drunk driving, despite faulty evidence in the case and because she refused to admit she was driving under the influence. Emily Dowdy & her family have taken down her website due to legal pressures from the justice system. However, parts of it are still available on the internet archive. I'm sure she had blood tests done at the hospital. Was there any drugs in her system? Did she have any witnesses at the club who say the man, bouncers, staff, etc.

sorry she is guilty with now remorse. i hope she rots. of course the legal system is flawed. a convicted killer is out and a good man was killed and there is no justice. the fact that his father was a cop makes no difference. she DID do it. she was also went out drinking after she killed him the before she went to trial the FIRST time. no remorse. if it were your son killed i would think you would want justice too.

The legal system is flawed. The judge allows "talk about a picture" but not the picture itself? WTF? Lots of mistakes made in this case. At least the part tv is reporting.

i'd be curious to know if a blood level alcohol test was done at the hospital. if this were not done, and she had no prior dwi, then she shouldn't have gotten such a harsh sentence. anyway, i'm glad she's been released. still her life might be difficult depending on what convictions she has.
