Before Walter "Clyde" Orange joined the Commodores in the summer of 1969, he sang and played drums in his own group called The J-Notes. Walter, who was influenced by jazz, hailed from Florida and began playing drums in junior high-school. He was the only Commodore that majored in music, but not at The Tuskegee Institute like the others, Walter graduated from Alabama State College (he was three years older than the other guys in The Commodores too).
man great story!

I can't understand how anyone couldn't like Brick House. There's 2 songs that when you hear you know right away it's the Commodores - "Brick House" and "Fancy Dancer", especially Brick House. Oh! and good Clyde for changing the name from Match Box to Brick House. I just don't think I'm shaped like a match box. However comparing a well built sista to a brick house and the image of buildings of good construction like Brownstones - Well then I guess you can see the analogy. You go my Brother!
