This is the first "live" test of the simply DIY burglar alarm system that I built out of parts acquired for a couple of dollars. Note that because of the shape of my door's handle I have since replaced the carabiner with a simple knotted loop of string. Do whatever works for your situation.

That's not a really accurate statement. Most burglars actually gain entrance through UNLOCKED windows. Busting a window causes a much more suspicious sound than kicking in a door - and unless you have a seriously reinforced steel door it won't take more than a couple swift kicks to knock it in.
Regardless, the same simple piece of electronics can be mounted on widows easily.
