SunTimes 2011, written by Eleanor Hannan:
INTERNATIONAL SINGING STAR AELITA TO PERFORM AT BETH TORAH SYNAGOGUE FOR HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS Only once, in great while do audiences have an opportunity to enjoy such a unique talent as Aelita, internationally known the world over as "The Queen of Cabaret, " singing songs from her exciting repertoire, "Songs From the Heart," for survivors of the Holocaust and their descendants. "Café Europa" is a social event that takes place three to four times a year, for those living in Miami-Dade County. Her many fans fall in love with her warmth, charm and personality making her one of the world's greatest performers, who will win the hearts of any audience. Aelita has completed two world tours, singing in 16 different languages, and sang at the opening of the World Cup, in Seoul, Korea, winning the title of "The Best Big Band Vocalist" in 2002. The preservation of Yiddish music has become a lifelong quest for Aelita, who truly sings from the heart. Aelita, born and raised in Latvia, now a resident of Hollywood, Florida, is a recording artist and has recently released two new recordings, "Cabaret a la Russe," based on her 2009 Broadway appearance at the Laurie Beechman Theatre and "Songs My Father Taught Me," a compilation of Jewish music combined with "American Pop a la Yiddish," dedicated to the memory of her beloved father. She has raised more than seven million dollars for the State of Israel alone, as well funds for many other charities. (The preservation of Yiddish music is a lifelong quest for Aelita, a chanteuse extraordinaire and a masterful artist, who is a second generation of Holocaust survivors herself). On December 21, 2011, this delightful chanteuse will bring her special brand of entertainment to Beth Torah Temple in North Miami Beach, hosted by the Miami-Dade Holocaust Survivors, Inc. Registration takes place at 11:30 a.m. Advance reservations should be made by mail sent to the Miami-Dade Holocaust Survivors Inc., The Greater Miami Jewish Federation, 4200 Biscayne Boulevard, Suite 3D, Miami, Florida, 33187-3279. Donations to the MDHS Mitzvah Fund for emergency assistance are appreciated.
