for dialogure, do you use sprites, or script?

The dialog boxes are procedurally generated (including the neat effect for appearing and disappearing), so I guess the answer is script, though each element of the box is in itself a sprite (such as every letter is actually stored in a sprite, and so are the portrait and boxes frame).
