very cool choice of repertoire - the movie Glory comes to mind - also the work of the great sculptor Augustus St. Gaudens (the Col. Shaw memorial). I'm sure this music will seep into your own fine compositions Kyle - someday and in some way....

@RumMyers he's was a composer during the Civil war, he wrote around 75 songs, this song (with the lyrics) is about the point of view of a black soldier fighter for the north
