Coffee Jive features two beans a week in two different brewing styles as well as two different pastries. We also pit the the two beans head to head to see which coffee Alex feels is suited for our bean wall, perhaps you'll agree?

Alex starts splitting what's left of his hairs on today's Coffee Jive showdown. It's Cafe Bustelo vs Pilon in a good old fashioned french press brawl, but which bean will reign supreme?

  • Alex looks like a guy I dated once! I like cafe bustelo!

  • @macrent2 I hope it went well! :P

  • I got my Ibrik, Cezve, or whatever it's called in turkish coffee territory from a Chinese Market pretty cheap, but if youw wanted to go for an authentic look, World Market sells copper Ibriks.

The most important part about Turkish coffee is the grind of the coffee itself. Most supermarkets have a Turkish coffee grind setting, but you'd need to check if it's to par. Sometimes the grinders need replacing or something and yield a grainy grind. Took me a while to get it right. Well worth it

  • @zxvasdf Yeah, that whole "optimized coffee" mindset is an interest of mine, but sometimes it's just time and money.. and I don't got lots of each! So I've just been using what I can and sharing my experiences with it. How would you say it changes the taste?

  • My version of the demitasse cup is actually a great big mug. I love how the process brings a nice head of foam to the drink and enhances flavors that are otherwise destroyed in the usual procedures. Have you heard of Black Blood of Earth?

  • @zxvasdf I have not. Tell me more about it.

  • @zxvasdf Thanks so much! I should look into this yerbe mate. Where do you get yours? Ha, yeah, coffee just has to be the legal addiction we can show off ;)

I have yet to do Turkish, though I'd love to! I've heard a lot about it, though I know it takes a great effort to convert what I'm doing into Turkish. I used to do drip machine too, but felt it wasn't worth my time.

  • Nice to see a fellow javanaut, even though my tastes aren't as refined as yours. These days I yo-yo between coffee and yerba mate (definitely an acquired taste, but if you haven't tried it, it's well worth trying. Sometimes the best thing about an addiction, illegal or otherwise, is the paraphernalia and preparation).

I prepare mine the Turkish method. Once you've gone Turkish, there's no going back. You've got so many videos... Wondering if you've got anything about that on your channel?

  • @okieman1200 Heh, it's a love-hate with Mr. Brady. He's just too perfect to exist! Engineered for the perfect dramatic, athletic, and social performances! I love your help, man! It's so good to exchange opinions! To think I have the opportunity to get a coffee education via community! Taking back coffee! :D

  • Pretty sure it's pronounced Pee-lone, but I'm a gringo, so who knows. Good video, except for the Tom Brady hate, my vote is for Cafe Bustelo.
