I've read that Dachshunds are the best swimmers in the dog's world.
Perhaps your dachshund is still not used to swimm. Mine doens't like water and always run away, what a shame.

I've got 6 dogs, including a Lab, and the ONLY one who likes to swim is the Dachshund. I took her with me to the river last weekend and she spent most of the time paddling around in the water. She slept all the way home.

be careful with them near the pool. the short legs make them weak swimmers if they have to swim any distance. Our mini jumped in the pool last week and started to sink before reachng the steps.. . pretty scary moment.

Evidently your pup's just not a swimmer. Jackson has been swimming almost daily since he was 4 mos old. He's nearly 3 yrs now. He swims the length of the pool 15-20 times...nooo problem. The only days he misses are the stormy ones, here in FL.
