How to Do a Faux Hawk with Short Hair

A faux hawk is a shorter, fake version of a mohawk. This can be a great way to add a new style to your short hair.

Step 1: Materials

To create your faux hawk look, you'll need: 

* A blowdryer
* Hair pomade or styling clay

Step 2: Wet Hair

Whenever you're changing the direction of hair, it's best to start with it wet so that you can dry it with a blow dryer. Make sure the hair is evenly damp. 

Step 3: Dry Hair

Now you need to dry the hair in order to manipulate the direction of the roots. 

Start at the top of the head and blow dry the hair up and towards the center, like a mohawk. Use your fingers to push the hair in the direction of a faux hawk. Focus the heat of the dryer at the roots for better control. 

Dry the sides of the head flat and straight down. 

Step 4: Style Hair

Once the hair is dry, apply the product to sculpt it into place. 

If you want a shiny finish for your faux hawk, use a hair pomade. For a matte finish, you can use a styling clay or cream. 

Rub the product over your hands well. Start on one side of the top of the head and push your hands through the hair over to the other side. Then cross over and repeat in the opposite direction. Continue going back and forth until the hair is completely coated with the product. 

Now you can pull up the hair into the faux hawk style. Twist up the hair in the front and smooth down the sides of the head.
