This video shows how the implementation of hidraulic turbines in home´s water input could reduce in some proportion the total electric demand to power plants. Reducing electricity bills. By taking advantage of unused mechanic energy wasted in pipes during high power demand hours, such as the morning, when most poeple use simultaneusly large amounts of energy (boiling water, heating bathroom...) and water (bath). And during the rest of the day the turbines could hold electricity in bateries for later use.

Beside it would be FUN to make your own hidraulic turbine battery system.
