I don't think this process is too good & effective. Very few people get rid of Debt by itself. When they are unable to do so they have to file bankruptcy. Due to this they loose their property & harm their credit score. So, it's better to go for consolidation of debts through several debt programs.

You guys are an inspiration. Thanks for putting this up. I'm ready and pumped for Dave's plan.

@Morrocanprincess but then they will pay off the house as millions of Dave Ramsey listeners do any be debt free + the house :)

That is so great! I have been on this since 2006 and I am now only a month or two away from finishing. I strongly advocate an important part of this process is to help others financially. My chosen cause is Kiva micro loans. Earlier this year something major happened that helped out my progress. I still don't know how or why it happened. (I can't say what it is due to confidentiality agreement) but I repeat - putting something out there is so important.

@keu143146 Keep it up! You can do it! :) It'll be worth it in the end, I promise! Here we are, 2 years later, and we are SO glad we are debt free, especially now that we've been unemployed for several months. Being debt free is allowing me to work for myself a bit and explore that as a possible career option.

But then you will go back to debt if you buy a house NOT in cash! You are always renting from the bank if you don't own the house in full. In doubt ? Try missing a mortgage payment, then you'll see who really owns the house !
But congrats for being debt free...for now till the house comes!

@Morrocanprincess Right. We're saving a 20% down-payment and then plan on doing a 15-year fixed mortgage that is no more than 25% of our monthly take-home pay. We'll be in debt for it, but we'll pay it off and hopefully come out ahead since real estate is often an investment. Most other debt (credit cards, cars, business equipment, etc.) are on items that depreciate. By the time you pay it off, the value of the item is about what you still owe on it -- nothing. Real estate can be different.
