The commonality for me between self harm and disordered eating is control.

  • hello darling. hope you're hanging in there. self harm was never about control for me, it was about enacting violence against my body, i had a lot of anger and hate and pain inside which i needed to get out - hence, self harm. interesting that you have found this link for yourself, what a good insight! have you told your therapist? xxxxxxx

  • @kayteeee99 I have told my therapist.

  • @CrystalRainDrop789 lol, I guess I can understand how it can seem more self-destructive than medicinal. (I'm a guy BTW, and sometimes I get cravings for Frank's Red Hot.) I'm curious, I've seen that you're Catholic, are there certain good spiritual things that you do when you get triggered, like pray the rosary or a quick Our-Father, and if so, what works best for you?

  • @cbrepp I don't know if the hot sauce would help me. I find doing opposite action helps the most. I do something good for myself instead of something self destructive.

  • @yva91 Thanks!

  • That's good insight. I agree because for me, cutting has been a control/coping mechanism. BTW, I've had some success replacing cutting with doing shots of straight hot sauce... Might sound weird, but it's working for me. My depression is situational so it helps to turn to an on-demand way to cope, rather than something like an SSRI class medicine. Not sure if you're the same way?
