[continued from previous comment] And when he turned out to *also* be a pretty friggin' cool guy to boot, BAM! I'm honored to know him, plain & simple.
We lost touch for a LONG time, & it was unfortunately the passing of Gary that prompted me to hunt him down (Thanks, Steve @ Troll Lord Games!). We've since utilized Gary Con, along with several other buddies of ours, as a sort of reunion, as well as remembering Luke's dad, whom we all loved in our own ways. =]

Luke's as good as they come. I started playing at age 12 ('81ish), so by the time I joined the army (infantry - hooah! lol) & arrived at my first duty station in Germany in '90, I had LONG been a D&D fan!!!
So anyway....on our company roster, there's this guy with the last name "Gygax."
"PFFFT!" I thought, "no way. But then......how many dudes are named 'Gygax'?"
Not long after: "Hey man, you wouldn't happen to be related to Gary Gygax would you?"
"Yeah, actually - he's my dad."
"HOLY SH**!!"

Another throughly enjoyable interview.

Thanks for the video Bill, that was great!

I had no idea that Gary was a train gamer. I like him even more now!
GREAT Interview BILL!!!!
WOW That is sooooo friggin cool to know where the "melf" and other spells and various rules came from! I can only imagine how different it was to literally grow up with D&D like he did. Next to his Dad he has to be the ultimate DM.. God I would love to play games with him. AND he's even in the ARMY? What I wouldn't give to get to know him even better.
