This is an oldie. I dug out as per a request and am now putting it online for all you lovely Youtube users to see, judge and critisize. And I know you will. I shot this back in 2005 if I remember correctly out in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx and parts of Harlem. My initial goal was to make a Samurai Jack inspired movie, but in the silent genre. What you are seeing is the end result. I shot, scored, edited and directed this movie. The fights could have used some more fine tuning, in my opinion.

  • This would be way better with sound and if you choreographed it better

  • @ShadowManV3 i hate people who dont read.

  • I saw what you were doing here. Personally, I thought your strengths at this time were how you were testing the limits of your frame. There are some fantastic compositions. It isn't Kurosawa...but, hell, what is anymore? Thanks for taking the time to put this one out. I'm thinking your stuff may soon become a favorite of my search for great fan films.

  • thanks a lot.

  • Well done for early work, and I especially enjoyed the last shot starting at 5:22. Only out of curiosity, have you ever considered a sequel, or even a remake?

  • not till this ver moment. perhaps. we'll see.

  • @blinky500 I do read i see where it says "My initial goal was to make a Samurai Jack inspired movie, but in the silent genre" I just thought it would be better with sound cuz i wanna hear the sword hits.

And i know u said the fights could have used some fine tuning i was just agreeing with you haha

  • If you fast forwarded it JSUT a smidge, ti would be a lot more gripping, but i understand the caution that goes with fighting with REAL katanas that discourage quick movements sfor safety reasons. All in all Great vid, but still a fast forwarded version would rule the day...

  • I love these kind of fanmade movies, even though I think they lack in terms of choreography (the fight scenes are not that great compared with all the other technical aspects).

Once they get it right - it's going to become magical.

  • Great job, I love the visuals, The action is cutty but still very good, I like the silence, it provides a chance to take in the score and absorb the scene.

I would love to see a sequel

  • Wow, I really like this. It's very well done, I think, and of course because I'm a fan of Samurai Jack myself, that makes it even better. We're all aware that some fine tuning is wanted but it's brilliantly done otherwise. You have true talent, my friend.

  • that wasgood over all.

  • The fight scenes could have used some better tuning just with timing and speed. I dont know, or at least can not tell what type of editing system you were using but I will say this, if you break down your cuts and use the 'speed time' effect properly. (try 25 to around 50 as the speed setting) The whole point of the attack sequences are to make the fight look dangerous, instead what we saw was the obvious use of caution with a deadly weapon.

  • the fights could be better, but anyway this video is also great. are you a film director?
