Defunkt (1978-) is a group led by trombonist/singer Joseph Bowie from New York City. They blend elements of punk rock, jazz and funk into their music. They have opened up for such artists/acts as James Brown, Talking Heads, The Clash, Isaac Hayes & Prince. Originally from St. Louis, MO., Bowie now resides in The Netherlands. He leads his own group Kosen-Rufu and works with Dutch acts, Hans Dulfer/Joseph Bowie Quintet & POW Ensemble.
