Shake, Rattle and Roll

Most people remember "Shake, Rattle and Roll" as a 1950's hit by Bill Haley & His Comets. It actually was recorded first by Big Joe Turner on February 15, 1954. Turner recruited the writer of the song Jesse Stone and studio execs to do the shouting chorus with him. I guess budgets were an issue even in the fifties ;) In the Bill Haley version, the suggestive lyrics were cleaned up except for the "one-eyed cat in the seafood store" reference. Some folks believe Haley missed editing it out because he was blind in one eye. Whatever the reason, this song is a great little blues tune and was fun to sing.
