  • What do you mean _when_? I'm a brain in a jar living in the matrix living in the other matrix.

    I guess the argument would then talk about suspension of disbelief influencing the perception of quality. Movies will never get "real" as long as I'm an observer. Games will never get "real" as long as I must suspend my disbelief.

    But that's me, I can imagine millions of having thinner barriers and smaller requirements for realness.

  • @stalepieonceagain yes all of the tools we work with like our imagination are "real" in that abstract sense that they're based on our physicality. Good point.

    But when people talk about realness with video games they compare it with the "meat-space" that exists outside the player's house. Real as in having a pizza with friends not unreal like logging into a game and having virtual pizza with virtual friends.
