Having a Nanny-cam is like having insurance.

You will probably never need to use the footage but it doesn't hurt to have it in place in case of an "incident".

Besides, they keeps honest people honest.

When a sitter knows about the cams, they'll mind their Ps and Qs.

re nanny cams. i think if you deem it nessesary to even think about instaling a nanny cam you should be getting a new baby sitter. if your uncomfortable enough to worry about what there doing while your not there its not worth keeping that individual. the main reason most people get them is they dont feel secure. save the money dump the sitter.

Also about internet, who knows what someone's looking at on there. Even at the houses i've sat at that have computers it's a no use situation. I personally bring a book or homework to get done after the kiddos go to sleep. How would a parent feel to come home and see their sitter surfing the net instead of checking up on their kiddos. After all, the kids are the reason you're there in the first place.

I just found this video. I was selected by sittercity as a prime sitter to do this, but couldn't come up with the funds in time. One thing I must say is that maybe others were in my situation, however 3 of the sitters interviewed looked pretty old to me.

As far as a nanny cam, it is respectful to let the sitter know that it's there however they don't need to know where.

I personally have never asked to have friends over, that's unprofessional. I wouldn't want someone else coming in my house.

but not everyone uses one... so when that same sitter would go to another family, you'd still have that possibility.

and the nanny cam idea is not meant to be used ALL the time... you use them sporatically when you notice something going on with your kid or the first several times they sit.

They also made a good point in the video: wouldn't you rather prevent the baby being shaken by letting the sitter know she's being monitored?

Much better than having the worst happening to your child but at least catching it on film for the courts.

that would depend on the babysitter, and the situation. if the safety of my child was at sake no i would just fire them

As we are older parents, we dont have any extended family who is willing to babysit. We do have a few friends but we dont want to over use this resource and potentially hurt the friendship. But I must say I feel reluctant to have a stranger in my home.

as for the bf over. no way. the babysitter's full attention needs to be on the children. I even feel sort of odd about the one sitter asking about the internet. Some folks (innocent whistle) can really zone out on it.
