This "LED Wheel", as it was named by the OCN community, features 24 LEDs of both green and blue variety arranged in a circle(facing outwards) on a black acrylic cutout. It is driven by a custom 24-channel PWM controller that I made and programmed for this application. All the light sequencing is psuedo-random; the order and parameters of the effects as well as their length are all determined at runtime.

I made the LED wheel as part of Project BlackBox, my scratch built acrylic computer case. I mounted the wheel underneath my motherboard so that the LEDs pump light directly into the edges of the clear acrylic panel that supports my motherboard and hard drive.
