About 11:00 p.m. near Mansfield, Ohio, Healey saw a red light off to the left (west) heading south. Three or four minutes later, Yanacek noticed a single steady red light on the eastern horizon, and reported it to Coyne. About 30 seconds later, Yanacek announced that the light appeared to be converging on the helicopter, and they all watched it warily.

As the light continued its approach, Coyne grabbed the controls from Jezzi and began a powered descent of approximately 500 feet per minute. He made radio contact with Mansfield approach control, requesting information on possible jet traffic. After Mansfield acknowledged their transmission, radio contact was lost on both UHF and VHF.

The red light appeared to be on a collision course, approaching at a speed estimated to be more than 600 knots. Coyne increased the rate of descent to 2,000 feet per minute until they reached about 1,700 feet, about 600 feet above the tree tops. With the unknown object about to ram them, the crewmen feared for their lives. Just as a collision appeared imminent, the light suddenly stopped and hovered above and in front of the helicopter. They saw a cigar-shaped, gray metallic appearing, domed object whose apparent size filled the entire windshield.

  • @CommissarASSHOLE wanting something we have - it could be one of three things - those delicious perch in Lake Erie - or our delicious women - or gold and diamonds and uranium - but not yet - they don't want to get their hands dirty so they will wait until we have most of the mining done and take it all - from the drawings I have seen they are Creepy slimy weird scaling looking things - NO just Kidding -Really I think they are Nice! Hope they have a sense of Humor!

Please do tell, sir. What is your view as to the nature of this encounter? I have one too, you see. These men swore that they saw this object going forth over Lake Erie after their encounter with the object. Lake Erie is known for its many distinguished sightings. I wonder then whether there is an underwater base beneath the Lake!

  • @CommissarASSHOLE

I did not see it - but it was right over our Farm. The witnesses I have found are very credible and I have interviewed them individually and separate on more than one occasion. there stories are the same always and exactly what the Coyne flight ran into.

I have a theory - but oh well.

  • @silversatva

Is it not WEIRD that so many folks had witnessed this thing, and yet--according to the Armed Forces--nothing was in the air at that time? Call me crazy or this was not a classic cover-up.

  • @yourdutchunclec

Do you live in Mansfield, Ohio...perhaps? In any case, this is one of the most trustworthy happenstances of an encounter with a UFO.

  • I found another eye witness - actually two of them -

  • I was a child, living in Mansfield, when this happened, in 1973. My siblings, and several neighbors saw this UFO, while standing in our driveway!! Thanks for making this!!
