James Deferio returns to SUNY Purchase with his controversial message to the campus community. Were the student reactions like last time?

  • i guess this is a perfect example of bias media. I would have more respect for the story if it was fair and balance . As you see he left out the whole picture . Where students where cursing spitting at the Christian the police had to move the Christians twice to different areas of the public campus because of the size of the crowd . Very intolerant people at purchase college . Instead of being being tolerant they did everything to stop freedom of speech from the Christians .

  • as i recall, hate is not a christian value. it is very insulting to come to one of the most gay friendly campuses in the u.s. and insult us and say we are wrong and sinful for being gay.

  • then god will love me even if i'm gay.

  • I apologize in advance for any confusion with replying with the same youtube name (thepurchasebrick is a communal name for the online newspaper). The next two to three posts will be of the reporter who filed this story:

In defense of the arguments of bias you have addressed to me, I must say your arguments lack any proof. This may have been true for the demonstration last April, but this time the numbers were significantly less.

  • In addition, Mr. Deferio said in my interview with him that: "It actually started off better this year until the police, through the intolerance of the Assistant Chief of Police moved us on the other side of those trees in the middle of the park, to over here. I thought it was going good. Students were being they calmed down, they were asking some good questions. One young man wrote a letter to me expressing how he thought about things and I thanked him for the letter and he was asking good

  • questions. He was being patient and listening to my response to the answer for those questions. I thought it was going good.

If you demand proof, I can always upload the full video interview.

You may accuse my college of being intolerant, you may accuse other reporters of bias, but you DO NOT accuse my journalistic integrity.

  • well, you all should really understand that he is trying to let you know about the fact that you are going to Hell if you remain a sodomite. He is trying to save you from your sin and help you to truly know God. You can not as a sodomite, given that God hates the workers of iniquity (that's biblical). So is there loving God and the people that he is preaching to, even if they hate themselves and they hate God.

  • @JimDeferio ...you're an ass.

  • "This is a very intolerant school.... they talk about acceptance, love and tolerance but that only applies to people that they agree with. Now how is that tolerance? It's hypocritical." HAHAHA pure gold, stupid protester =)

  • It has nothing to do with what "god" thinks of you. it is whether or not you are a productive member of society. Basically gays are worthless. They live their often pathetic unproductive lives being shunned and hated by people like me, not having any natural normal children and killing american culture. Fuck you homos.

  • purchase looks like a stupid school. Jim Deferio and his crew are fools. but american higher education isn't very impressive either.

  • The amount of irony in your post is amazing.

Not everybody believes in the same invisible man, or that one exists at all, or that it's a he for that matter. For somebody to basically come onto the Purchase campus and ATTACK them isb't showing that they live and care for anybody...

And for the reocrd, according to the same book you preach from, if you don't repent for these vile statements, then you aren't making it to the pearly gates either... in layman's terms, see you in hell, bucko.

  • amen brother jim keep on preaching, GODS WORD doesnt return void.

  • Actual debates were going on, where were you? Often we put the signs down and stop preaching and allow the students, faculty and staff to ask questions, engage in debate, etc. I often ask students questions and challenge them to defend their position in an intelligent, rational way.

Maybe next time when the police problem is dealt with.

  • How is holding up signs against homosexuality on a campus full of gay people productive? An actual debate would be useful. A table in the hub with pamphlets and hugs; useful. This came off as intolerant preaching due to two things: those obnoxious signs and the reputation of this campus. If this was a protest on Washington, that would be one thing. But this is a small liberal arts school. Leave the signs at home, and meet us one on one.

  • Why don't you just ask me what the officer said rather than presume something. I was not threatened with arrest for "disturbing the peace". I have it all recorded on video.

It would have been great on the plaza and the opportunity to voice agreement (LOL) or disagreement with our message would have been a good exercise in 1st Amendment activity and in general civility. If students are only surrounded with people whom they agree with how will they be challenged and possibly learn something new?
