One Sun One World - Wherever They Live in the World - Oldham 2011

One Sun One World is the latest in a distinguished line of World Wildlife Fund school musicals by composer Peter Rose and librettist Anne Conlon. One Sun One World, written to mark the 50th anniversary of the WWF, follows in that fine tradition reflecting the issues highlighted by WWF's "One Planet Future" campaign -- so it celebrates our astonishing planet in all its rich diversity, but it also examines changes brought about by human activities in a modern world.
The musical, running for over an hour and a half, enlists a huge children's choir, a symphony orchestra and a number of characters to tell the story. These include an Oak Tree, a Panda, a Tiger and a Polar Bear, all singing about their own special habitats and their place in the world as a whole.

This musical is a huge work that premiered in London's Royal Albert Hall to critical acclaim in a production that included a choir of 1,500 children. It was also staged earlier this month in Zurich in the presence of Desmond Tutu.
For the Oldham performance the Queen Elizabeth Hall stage was crammed with over 200 young singers recruited from 6 Oldham primary schools - Beal Vale, St Luke's, Delph, St Anne's Greenacres, Coppice & St Herbert's.- supported by soloists and a 40 piece strong orchestra comprising members of the Oldham Youth Orchestra and the Music Centre staff. To make the concert even more prestigious, Peter Rose and Anne Conlon were both in the audience to listen to the performance performance.
The choirs were coached by music centre voice tutors Rebecca Fox, Mary Jefferis and Kay Edwards. The project leader was Rebecca Fox and the conductor was Gerard Booth. Many thanks to the music publisher and copyright holder Josef Weinberger for allowing us to post clips on YouTube.
