Think: Green hill = emerald hill = mushroom hill.
Labyrinth = Hydro city.
Spring yard = casino night = carnival night
Star light = metropolis
EVERY last stage = robotnik's base
Marble = marble garden = aquatic ruin
etc.
IT LIVES on nostalgia and has ever since #2...which is still awesome!
Do level themes really matter more than game-play to you? If that's the case, go watch a movie and don't pose as a gamer.
