@eddoeco Changing to Slackware -current is as simple as editing your mirrors file. Open up /etc/slackpkg/mirrors with any editor and you'll see a lot of URLs with different sections - Slackware 13.1, Slackware 13.37, etc. Look for whichever says "Slackware current" and choose the URL of the mirror that is closest to you. Remove the # next to the URL and save the file. Run slackpkg update as root, then run slackpkg upgrade-all. Choose which packages you want to update and you're done.

@dvamateur Automatic package management does not come with Slackware because the creator believes the OS should stay out of your way as much as possible. You can use "slapt-get" which is an APT-like system for package management. I highly recommend you use Slackbuilds instead. You download the source of the package, download the Slackbuild script to build a package out of it, then install it with installpkg. I haven't used slapt-get but if you need any Slackbuilds help let me know.

I haven't used Slackware since the olden days, like 1996 or something, but I am interested in going back. I use Ubuntu at the moment, and I love Cinelerra, anyway, my questions is, is the installation on Slackware also as easy as Ubuntu 's "sudo apt-get install" or that way of installation is the Debian thing? Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but I had a long hiatus in using Linux (maybe for a good reason 'cause I've been into Atari ST and 1990 Macintosh through all that time :)

Hey guys how can I get Slackware current? I read some about mirrors and slackpkg but I just can't understand. I'm in Mexico and use Slackware 13.37.
Thanks in advance.

I like ubuntu appereance :D
anyone else notice the cpu usage?

@JakeB1911 LOL, was 69% for a while there. And if you weren't referring to that and were meaning it seems a bit high...well I was running screen recording and encoding it on the fly (with FFmpeg) so it would take quite a bit of CPU work.

why does this look like ubuntu?

@HomeInventors Simply because, at the time, I was running XFCE with an ubuntu theme :P So Ambiance for the window borders etc.
I could have left it as stock standard XFCE but it would have been pretty ugly.

As for the release cycle - there isn't one per say, they make sure it works and is ready before they release anything.

@lostzinzthought Which sounds good to me. I always see in Ubuntu especially, those bugs it seems to have after it's released. Fast forward some months and I'm sure they get ironed out but it seems on a strict 6 month release cycle it's hard to make sure everything is just right.
