A slowed-down video showing the movement and spin of the gyroball, using a specially marked ball to facilitate observation of the spin. Note particularly that the "+" on the front of the ball is barely moving as the ball rotates, indicating a "bullet"-type spin. Note also that the pitcher turns his palm to the outside upon releasing the ball, much like a pitcher would do if throwing a screwball. However, the gyroball does not have the same spin as a screwball and should not be confused with it.
The gyroball is originated in Japan and is a popular pitch among many Japanese pitchers, including Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka. Matsuzaka doesn't admit that he throws the gyroball, even though we all know he does
@Ilikemonkeysful Ya, Daisuke actually admitted when he moved here he couldn't throw it...but it's sports, and it's hype, so of course the Red Sox are gonna tell people about it. If you worry about what a pitcher throws, he's got an edge.
I love how people eat this stuff up.

@ajlepisto
He cant even throw one, the Japanese proffesor that invented the pitch said that himself, also, the way you throw it (well it's how a lot of epole told me how) is you either hold it like z 2 seam or a 4 seam fastball, but with the ball facing 1st if you throw it like a 4 seam it will look faster than it is, and if you throw it like a 2 seam then it's supposed to look slower than it really is,

@Kurama024 It basically IS a changeup. Changeup is an offspeed pitch that presents itself like a higher velocity counterpart.

@andros1984 Nothing really. Welcome to pitching. You can get the same stuff with different pitches. People online focus so much on "the grip" and stuff when in reality, you can get similar pitches and hybrids all of the time.
Most MLB pitchers have their own variations of most of the common pitches. Why else do they all have their own movement? People online are dumb.
Daisuke himself says sometimes when he throws a slider wrong and it doesn't bite, it creates the gyro movement.
