not bad but he cant touch Akkerman's version; there's not enough music in it

If you put old sentiments aside then you have to admit that Akkerman really is'nt very much better than van Steenhoven. And it's absolute nonsens to say that this version is played at half speed. I wonder how much you know about music then. This is a very good version of their classic hit! Van Steenhoven is playing "Sylvia" (as he should) in his own style and that style is perhaps different but, because of that, not per definition inferior to Akkerman's technique and skill.

This is played at half speed! Listen to the other (Akerman) versions here on Tube

I'm afraid your right. Jan Akkerman is still active and productive though and still plays with youthful vigor and fervor. And completely relaxed and wih tremendous pleasure, I might add.

Still bloody good though :)

Gotta agree DRJ; check out the 70's waxings on Toob. This lacks everything that made the early stuff so mindblowing: energy, enthusiasm & Ackermann. Saw them many times 74 - 78 and they simply blew yer kneecaps off!

Hi everyone - I was there, at Baja Prog and had breakfast with them and got a big big hug from Thijs.
Was anyone else there?

No disrespect to anyone, but, no Akkerman; no Focus. I mean this nice fellow is up there playing in his place, not necessarily providing an ample replacement for Jan Akkerman. Here is a "Focus" in which Akkerman just goes unreplaced. Actually, .... I may have hit on it in the first sentence...I mean, it's never going to be the same. Lets face it, they're all just a bunch of old guys anyways. Its over... ! So I should probably just get a life and get over it!!!
Never mind.

Do not underestimate Niels van der Steenhoven, He does a wondefull job and i think he comes really close to akkerman. Although he has his own way of playing things. And thats good.

Thanks for the video. I was 2nd row at this Baja show and it was such a great ending to a fantastic festival. Thijs is one of the nicest people I meet that week, and still rocks like a young kid. It was a thrill getting to know someone I had only heard on L.P.'s and seen in videos. Thanks again.
