Thanks for posting this!
The first time i heard this was in 1960. We were driving from Manchester to Northumberland (stockbrudge) for a holiday. The North-East of England is one of the areas where this song resonated.
As it was sunset and we drove through the hills in Durham,
My elder brother sang this song in its entirety with guitar accompaniment.. I was ten but still felt knocked out. Unforgettable.

Anyone have tabs for the harmonica sections? Sounds like it's in D, but I can't quite figure it out.

@SirCoughsalot You should have read the book as well. John Steinbeck is an amazing writer.

@FerminGalan1930 In the thirties the share croppers were driven off the land by having thier farms, and houses plowed under by Catapillar bulldozers. The landowners were converting to big field industrial farming. Read "The Grapes of Wrath" by Stienbeck for details.

Caterpillar Bulldozers and Cranes and big ass tractors
-
@Fermin It means that caterpillar tractors put tenant farmers (sharecroppers) out of business. One tractor could do the work of ten families.
-
@kerrsridge Funny, I was thinking he meant cats as in 'fat cats', i.e. bankers.

@gibbz91 Hey Tom Joad. Great name!
"the Grapes of Wrath" is the story of my family (mom's side) to.
They lived in the camps also. I sure am glad they did good. California is a nice place.
We still have relatives in Ok & AR but I don't know them.
And he found little Muley and Muley said,
"They've been tractored out by the cats,
They've been tractored out by the cats."
This part, what is your meaning? I don´t understand
Can somebody tell me please?

@FerminGalan1930. Hello , and thanks for posting. Tractored out by the cats means to have their homes/ shacks destroyed by cattapillarr tractors. Bulldozers on tracks, like tanks sent by banks or landlords to drive off farmers that had not been able to pay the mortgage/ rent on their land.
