Former Childrens Laureate Michael Rosen speaks on Radio 4 about the disadvantages for UK Primary school children of learning from worksheets rather than reading whole books and becoming engaged with a story. He blames the Governments move towards SATS as a reason why children are now grilled about books rather than reading and enjoying them. Michael also tells us why this use of short extracts is not inspiring U.K Primary School children to follow up this reading and referring to the full book an extract is from.
