John Taverner's In Nomine performed by "Concordia" on early instruments. THIS VIDEO BELONGS TO THE BBC.
Taverner composed about 70 works, he wrote eight masses in all, and the tune for the "In nommine Domini" section of his Missa "Gloria tibi Trinitas" became one of the most popular canctus firmus melodies for instrumental music in England, in a genre know as "In nimine" in honour of Taverner's vocal original.

  • C'est splendide ! Mais pourquoi toutes ces altérations....inopportunes et pour le moins discutables?

  • Found out a bit more about the vocal version of this piece: In Trouble and Adversity was adapted from John Taverner's 4-part instrumental work In Nomine (which is turn is a version of a section from his Gloria Tibi Trinitas).

The text was added by John Caustun, a minor Tudor composer, and published in John Days Mornyng and Evening Prayer and Communion of 1565, 20 years after Taverner's death.

  • This is also "In Trouble and Adversity" - did Taverner actually set the words to it later, or was it somebody else? Nice performance too!

  • so beautiful ! Love it !
