0800050 - U.S. Navy Training Film - Torpedo MK 45 (Nuclear) Systems Description - 1962 - 13:00 - Black&White and Color - This animated video shows an antisubmarine torpedo with a nuclear warhead maneuvering to get position on an "enemy" submarine before detonation.

The commentator describes the range control systems, the depth control functions, and the integration of other components that make the entire system work. Also shown are warhead and safety features being checked before deployment. The video shows an animated demonstration of the torpedo systems and then shows actual footage of torpedo components in a training torpedo. The final test run of the torpedo shows that it is safe for the firing ship and deadly for the target.

  • i´have any idea how nuclear warhead is. All Doe videos were been classfied, because they have significant information about how these weapons´ systems are. In fact would be interesting to see warheads being handling by technicians on these videos if possible, not to build someone, just curiously

  • Hate to disagree with your physics teacher but I was stationed onboard the USS Nautilus SSN571 during the 75-77 and I was a TMSN. We had onboard her not 1 but 4 MK45's. At the that time we were not told of the MK45 "2 kiil ratio" but that was normal onboard the Nautilus. Our commander was an asshole and would have gladly gave the order to kill us all just so he could have the glory. You must understand most of the officers would not tell you the truth about anything.

  • @grooveclubhouse My high school physics teacher was a retired naval officer and submariner. He was in during the period the MK45 was employed. He said they never issued more than one to a sub, because the kill probability was 2 - it would take out BOTH the target and the launching ship.

  • @grooveclubhouse If you were a good soldier you would be lol

  • Im not sure I would feel comfortable with a nuclear explosion less than 12,000 yards away...

  • ...so it was the hypnotic effect of these training films that were meant to assure the obedience of the user ! Strange way to make money this extinction business, kind of a waist of potential too. Not sure what I ever had that the next guy wanted to blow up either, must be a rich parasite belief,, not a subsistence beings logic. Perhaps those that ordered this stuff should pay for it too, n longer have those that slave to make & arm it continue to pay the rich for this .amazing killing crap !
