I had my own slant on the idea. The fact it turns out to be him when the mask is taken off is a key difference between the two. Your actions are a part of what make you the person you are, and it shows that they all could have been him in their situations.
Unlike Scrooge, he isn't necasserily rich. He's very busy (stressed), has problems with others beliefs, and is taking it out on everyone else, ignorant of what could result.
