  • I read somewhere or saw I can't recall, perhaps it was a public service channel program, that In ancient Rome graffiti was commonplace.

There was everything from political ads to common pornographic depictions as you see on the marble you've shown and most probably the earlier picture as well, although it might have been the famous killroy was here picture.

It's basic human nature I say..

  • @Curas1 Very true. The graffiti in Pompeii are still perfectly legible and usually written very carefully too - unlike some modern scribbling.

  • The guy who wrote his number on the wall also wrote his number on the balustrade... sad.

  • @iluvatar003 I never noticed : how very observant of you. But in that case it might well be the number of the local police station or more likely a local monastery of monks!

  • To echo some earlier people, you need to do a Google image search on "Banksy stencils".

My favourite text graffiti was in a toilet cubicle at my old University: "This place is disgusting! I'm never eating lunch here again!"

  • @conradleviston In a cubicle at my University, an arrow pointed to the toilet paper dispenser with the words 'Sociology Degree : Please take one!'

  • Toilet graffiti must be an important part of US culture. Years ago (in the time of a long-gone, "tricky" president), I saw the following recommendation inside the door of a toilet stall in the Pentagon, of all places: "Flush twice. It's a long way to the White House."

  • Young people don't think more than some minutes ahead of their actions. That's something you learn with aging (and also respecting others property)

  • (I agree, modern youth is annyoing)

  • @tenneral

You're welcome. I only knew that because the Book of Daniel is historically inaccurate. No surprises there!
