I think you had a crash collision with what the guy was saying and what you were doing. I hate when that happens. Then I have to take even more time to process everything.
This is really interesting. I'm just trying to learn a bit about Asperger's. I'm really curious: would it help to always reply, "Hmm, let me think a moment" so they have a response and know to wait?
Happens to me with impatient people because loud voices are harder to process. Then they start yelling your name or "hello?" or something rude that makes me panic. Not everyone is like that, though.

Except of course when the person doesn't walk away and decides to stand there and keep asking, "did you hear me? The Miller File. I know you have it. Where is it? I need it. Why aren't you answering?"
