Decided to make a quick shootout between EA instrument cables since I haven't found nearly any reviews on YouTube. Let me know what you guys think. Is the noticeable different worth the cost? I'm liking the Forte and Melody right now. Lyric HG is a little too stiff for my taste even though it does sound fuller/fatter. All guitar EQ and amp EQ settings were untouched after starting the test. Only EA cables were changed out for each demonstration.

Recorded with a Lyric HG mic cable and Siren II speaker cable.

  • @seagreenyweeny it's all the cables man! i didn't believe it either at first.

  • @joesl8, definitely try to upgrade each piece of your signal chain when you can. it'll be worth it! evidence audio also makes speaker cable. they sell Siren II with straight to push on connectors, which are designed for combo amps.

  • Interesting! From this shoot out I would choose Melody, but I have all three at home and find Lyric HG to be louder, punchier and clearer than either Forte or Melody. I find Forte punchier than Melody, but bass notes on guitar are less clear than the Melody.

  • Hey maybe you could A/B your EA's with different brands if you have them in hands.

  • My favorite is the Melody. It's more open than the Lyric HG and has more highs. The Lyric HG seems to have a higher pF that rolls off some of the highs (which seems to make it sound fuller/fatter) and makes the sound more compressed. Good stuff.

  • Guitar cable does make a difference. XLR cable quality not so much (as well as 1/4" cable at line level) but the purer the copper and better the shield the better your guitar will sound.

Better guitar cable even helps bass, although more subtlely than regular electric.

  • There's definitely no EQ'ing going on here? Because the difference is massive, way more than I thought could ever come from a cable. It's like the difference between three different jfet boosters.... Now I have no choice but to drop $130.00 on a cable!

  • Clean - Lyric then Melody

    Heavy - Melody then Lyric

    Solo - Lyric then Melody

I was having a tough time deciding which to go with, but this helped a lot given I play mostly the clean and solo type tones. Thanks.
