Downgrade iPhone 3GS from 4.0.1 to 4.0 or to 3.1.3

READ CAREFULLY STEP BY STEP , IT WORKED FOR PEOPLE HERE , SEE COMMENTS :
I spent long time watching how some people who saved their SHSH on 3.1.3 (like me) r downgrading from 4.0/1 to 3.1.3 again BUT i can not .
Anyway, my advice is not to give up and try again and again as I did .
Here it is : After upgrading from 3.1.3 to 4.0.1 I downgraded to 4.0 it was simple because Apple let me do it .
Then, I have my SHSH saved in cydia and my laptop , I saved it again (even the new firmware 4.0 and 4.0.1 , may be I need them in the future )
After that , I went to notepad and run it as administrator . open file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts , click on hosts and add at the bottom 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com .
Then , I SWITCHED OFF my iphone and put it in DFU mode , opened iTunes , pressed shift and restore , added the firmware 3.1.3 for 3GS , and the restoring started .
After a while u will see an error ( it was expected , and thats good) and ur phone will be in recovery mode (on the screen u will see the cable and iTunes logo)
Ignore that error (click ok) and shut iTunes.
The job now is to get out of recovery mode without iTunes , i tried many ways but all of them didnt work SO i unplugued my iPhone , opened blackra1n , plugued my iPhone again , tap make it rain ,the screen will be black .I Pressed home botton and sleep botton together till i saw the apple logo , connected my iphone to itunes , set as a new phone , jailbreaked again using SPIRIT , and I am happy again ,

My old 3GS succumbed to water damage from humidity. Is it possible for me to downgrade an iPhone I bought off eBay from 4.0.2 to 3.1.3 without an SHSH?

i have my shsh saved,but on someone elses computer. does that matter if i want to downgrade on my computer?

You SHSH should be saved in cydia server then , so u can downgrade it , anyway there is no harm if u try , but i think it will work for u .

why do we need to downgrade it from 3gs 4.0.1 to 3.1.3? is there some apps that does'nt work for 4.0.1? i have just bought iphone 3gs 3.1.3 but i accedentally upgraded it to 4.0.1. my question is..why we should downgrade it? is it necessary?

dang i just got my 3gs replaced and now its 4.1, any downgrades? A guy at the apple store said he could jailbreak it no prblem and then i asked how and he said legally i cant tell you! so i know there is a way but how?

my battery crapped out on me a few day ago so I bought a new original battery and installed it last night. now my iphone (3gs) is stuck on the low battery screen. It's on 4.0.1 jailbroken with jailbreakme and unlocked with ultrasn0w. I have the SHSH saved for 4.0, and I just changed the host file of iTunes. (i have iTunes 10) can I put my iphone in dfu mode and restore it with 4.0 firmware? i dont know if I need to restore or if this new battery I got is at fault but is the downgrade possible
