Performance documentation from a photographic installation at Lamar Dodd School of Art, Athens, GA, 2005. The mixed media installation included photographs of my mother, my maternal grandmother, and myself throughout life as well as memorable objects/heirlooms. I wore the homecoming dress my mother wore when she crowned homecoming queen 20 or so years before and after standing listening to my grandmother's travel clock (as I did when I would fall asleep at her apartment when I was young) I cut out of the structure with her surgical scissors she used as a nurse in World War II and after. This performative installation was a metaphorical tribute to my matriarchal heritage as well as a coming-out from that background into my own identity and future.
