For the last century we have been told four lies about how to promote community well-being: that the medical system will promote health, that experts know best, that we must focus on pathology instead of people's strengths, and that treating individuals one at a time will improve society. Dr. Prilleltensky's talk proposes four remedies to these sins: Strength, Prevention, Empowerment, and Community Change.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

  • Excelent lecture as ussual from you.

    Congratulations from Down Under.

Nick said "I wish all my lectures were like this one."

    See you in April/March 2011

  • 16 minutes of laughter, insight, and provocation. Twenty-first century literacies are enormously important to the sense of collective empowerment for which you advocate. Of all the challenges facing our inner-cities, igniting a sense of wonderment, discovery, and purpose are on a precipitous decline. No small challenge in the middle of a great economic implosion and a quarter of a century of growing sense of collective powerlessness that gets passed on from generation to generation.

  • Unfortunately it illuminates gross corruption and implicates the morality of those who would not seek to annihilate the disease thereby alleviating suffering.

    Thank you for this.

  • Wonderful! DISCOVERING source is key. Big money puts up obfuscation to discovering the true source of problems. Change through understanding the true source, becoming aware then administering prevention AT the source. Too much ridiculousness on TV about 'symptoms' of disease instead of the 'source' of the disease, e.g., Why is it called Breast Cancer Awareness week instead of Breast Cancer Prevention Week?? (cont'd.)

  • Isaac: Brilliant talk. While humorous and witty, the basic message is profound and exactly on target. Len Syme

  • Great job, Isaac! All familiar to me of course, but very well, succinctly, & humorously delivered! And ideas that everyone should learn and apply-- I hope this video helps in that cause! Your friend & former colleague, Doug PS: Nashville IS a place where you feel more welcomed than you really are! ;>)
