DN stands for "Detroit News", a newspaper in the US that launched an iceboat design contest in 1935. This on board camera recording shows DN iceboatsailing on the northern part of "East Ringlake" in the South of Sweden during the 1st of February 2009. Northeasterly 10-20 knot wind and a heavy snowfall made for frost-biting sailing and quite a handfull of sheating, steering and filming simultaneously. Skidding caused by a combination of sloppy sailing, improper trim and dull runners. There are no breaks on a DN iceboat and steering at higher speeds needs to be cautious so my friend Mark Swanzon´s advise is a valid one: "-Don´t run out of lake!" No animal, sailor or spectator was harmed during the shooting of this clip and repairs of equipment were limited.
