Landfills are a tremendous contributor to global climate change. By capturing and recycling landfill methane, we can convert harmful landfills into clean energy producers.
Some sites already capture this methane; however, because of the dangers and expenses in transporting a pressurized, flammable gas, it rarely leaves the landfill site. Generally, this methane is flared, uselessly burned, because of the difficulties it would require for the methane to reach the consumer.
Liquid methanol, a simple combination of methane and water, is much less volatile and can be transported safely with tanker trucks, meeting EPA and DOT standards. Methanol itself is an incredibly useful chemical, in plastics, aviation fuels, and polymers. However, methanol is also an alcohol based fuel that blends with gasoline. This clean burning alternative fuel could also help to alleviate the worlds dependency on fossil fuels, without huge, expensive shifts in current transportation fuel infrastructure.
If we utilize skid-mounted methanol plants, we can maximize the utility of multiple sites, without building lucratively expensive pipelines. Using decaying trash to power your car? The technology is already there, and if we dont utilize this wasted energy, the methane will only further pollute the atmosphere.

Governments don't like doing good works, they would sooner buy bombs and fighter jets to save the world and economically ruin their nations.
