This is a re-enactment of the speech given by James Connolly to the British Court Martial that sentenced him to death for his part in the 1916 Rising. Although born in Scotland to Irish parents Connolly became one of Ireland's greatest leaders. He was a visionary socialist always involved in the struggle for the working class. He remained unbroken unto death. The injured Connolly's execution by a British firing squad sickened the Irish people. His injuries were such that Connolly had to be strapped to a chair so the British could sate their thirst for revenge. Within two years Irish men and women would again be in action against the British Empire fighting for their freedom. 'He succeeded in proving that Irishmen are ready to die endeavouring to win for Ireland their national rights'.
"Apostles of Freedom are ever idolised when dead, but crucified when alive." - James Connolly
