In Memoriam to Chuck

Our cat Chuck (on top of the scratching post) died on Wednesday, 26 August, of Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. He was only 8 years old and the symptoms manifested literally in minutes; leg paralysis and extreme pain caused by a blood clot lodged in the artery feeding his back legs. Another clot lodged in his lungs and his breathing became labored and raspy. He was euthanized by the emergency vet clinic we took him to at 9:30 EST that Wednesday.
It was the end of a beautiful, intelligent soul in the shape of a cat. He had long since figured out how to work door latches, open cupboards, was curious about the light shining through the peephole in the front door and would track its movement throughout the day, made sure everyone went to bed on time (including my wife and I), he would reach out and touch your arm if he wanted to show you something, and used to insist on being kissed on the top of his head. He loved to nap on laps and would follow us to bed if a mid-day nap was in order. He loved to cuddle in bed and would let my wife wrap her arms around him, purring contentedly the whole time.
He was gentle, and even through he hisses at Haze the Kitten in this film, soon after he would hold the kitten down and give him a bath, ensuring his ears were very clean. Chuck was scared of visitors at first, but if he got to know you, he would love you endlessly, rubbing his head on your feet or hand. Sometimes, if the mood struck him, he would "wear" your shoes by putting his paws in them.
This is our way of saying "goodbye" to a friend we've had for eight years and who was taken from us so quickly and so violently. We love you Chuck and we miss you terribly!
