I came out as an atheist on facebook: Update

Unfortunately, the emails are too long for the description box so I'm unable to post them here. Any suggestions on how I can post them here on Youtube?

I had a similar reaction to my coming out by my cousins. My sister and brother were already atheists. My cousins are devout Catholics and they stayed silent on the issue until a wedding we attended together and then they just said that I would grow out of it LOL! (I'm 54) They have very little to do with me now (Oh well). You always have the support of your atheist friends. :) Great message!

@mp478070 I would love to hear what they have to say about it. Are they ignoring what I said to punish me? I don't think so...I guess they ignored it because they didn't want to address it.

I'm glad I'm out. Now, I don't have to pretend anymore. I don't have to close my eyes when they pray over dinner. I don't have to be silent anymore. Now they know and I'm going to be vocal from now on.

First of all, you look like this after you just woke up? Wow! - I'm not sure what'd be better, if your friends and family members are posting negative comments, but being honest, or if they just ignore you like this. I think it'd make me crazy if they said nothing, since you don't know why they do it. Are the just ignoring the fact that you're an atheist? Are they trying to punish you by giving you some kind of silent treatment? Do the even care what you think about certain things?

@mp478070 Lol! Yes, I got out of bed and decided if that if I didn't make the vid at that moment, then it would be postponed for another couple days :-)

My sister who is in Russia posted on my facebook page and sent me a message over facebook. She definitely saw it.

My bestfriend's boyfriend commented and thumbs up my status. They practically live together so even of she didn't see it, he told her. Plus she also posted a "I miss you" message on my wall. Its being ignore but I don't know why...

it shocks me to see how a simple declaration atheism is regarded in the land of the free. it was not as if she said she spied for the russians. how is that in america, atheists are seen as such evil people/?

I actually lost "friends" on facebook when I posted "The God Delusion" on my page. I post quite a bit on physics and astronomy and other science updates. My brother and two other friends were "shocked" when I explained that I was an atheist. And when I am with them, they can't wait to bring it up, but they get pissed when I explain my position.

Answer to your question about the email:

1.) Go to text-upload (dot) com

2.) Click on "Upload" tab

3.) Copy/paste email

4.) Hit upload, it will give you a link.

5.) Post link on youtube description.

.. You have to realize that, depending on their beliefs, they might think that you could end up in a fiery pit and tortured for eternity. Obviously, this is not what they want, but you have to understand that it would be hard for somebody to accept a loved one's choice without saying anything about it if they genuinely feel that way. At the same time, they probably want to accept your beliefs for your beliefs but it can be tough.

And I wouldn't take having it ignored as a sign that they don't care or that they are going to turn against you for it. There's a good chance that they just don't know what to say - I try not to acknowledge my Christian friends' and family's religion and they try not to acknowledge my lack of. They may not know how to put their feelings without feeling like they're trying to force their beliefs on you or without feeling like they're abandoning their faith. cont..

I've never hidden the fact that I'm atheist but I've also never met anybody with problems with it (besides my grandparents who are all extremely religious.) When I moved in with my grandparents for a bit, they even forced me to go to church and told everybody I was an atheist. I was pleasantly surprised when NOBODY there had a problem with me or tried to convert me. They were curious but they were very nice.

Some can be rude but the majority of people are very accepting. :)

Great video and I'm glad more people in the americas(north america,central america, south america) are coming out as atheists =)
