This selection is for my friend Neal in the USA who loves Irish polkas and slides. The first is called "The Lakes of Sligo" (though it is known by another name in Scotland); the second is "Blue Bonnet" - a very popular polka in Donegal and in the North of Ireland and the last is based on an old Irish song called "Lá i bPortláirge" and sung wonderfully by the late, great Liam Clancy. They are meant for dancing, friends, so clear the furniture aside and let's go!

  • Grand music Terry! (what my Northern Michigan, USA wifi connection will let me hear of it so far) I am sending this vid to my youngest brother to settle a bet and prove to him I am not always out of my tree and the Irish musical tradition includes polka.

No such music as the music that comes out of Sligo. Thank you and your kind for giving it to the world. Cheers!

  • @SuperBetty213 Oh yes, polkas are very much part of the tradition - especially down in County Kerry. You find them in many counties - in Clare with the Kilfenora Ceili band, - in my native County Donegal also etc. Glad you enjoyed them but you will find many more accomplished musicians playing polkas on YouTube.

  • Super playing Terry! Vincent

  • @carrowcrin100 Many thanks Vincent. Glad you enjoyed it. Haven't posted any tunes all year. Must get round to doing a few more over the holiday.

  • Great playing, Terry!

  • @terrygrif Now that my wifi connection is fixed I stand by my original comment, grand, this will definitely be in my Christmas playlist. Of all the various types of music I enjoy, Irish traditional has become my truest love because those who play it are so truly humble and generous with their gift. Thanks again.

  • Super playing Terry!
