Wes Montgomery was surely a genius of time and swing. Here is a transcription of Road Song theme and chorus, where you will see how, with relatively simple phrases, and sometimes very few notes, he is admirably placed in the time, so that you can't do anything but clap your hands and shake.
I use a C harp.
You will notice that my play is far from being perfect : the difficulty comes from the way Wes plays, never exactly on time, oftenly slightly in advance, which gives this dynamic impression.
This is exactly what makes the work of this theme such an interesting exercise (like Blues de Flamel theme, which has the same particularity).
Enjoy your work !
Jerome

  • Nice job!

  • @resojoe : Thanks !

  • Perfect.

    Just a question about tablature.

What does it means the number with an °,for example 6°?may be an overblow?.if yes,how do you obtain this?.

    thanks a lot.

    ENLIL60

  • Yes, ° means an overnote.

    So 6° will be 6 overblow, 7° will be 7 overdraw, ...

To obtain an overblow, you blow and put your tongue in the same position than for a bend.

Obtaining the first overblow is not easy, but you'll find many videos and explanations on the net to do so.

I hope that helps a bit,

    Best regards,

    Jerome
