In this teaching video, Tommy shows you how to perform m-mode measurement of the left ventricle (LV) using echocardiography. When you do the measurement, always make sure that the ventricle has a round (not oval) appearance. If the ventricle looks oval, you should probably move the transducer up one intercostal space. Enjoy!

  • As Tommy mentioned in the video, you can measure the ventricle from both a long and a short axis view. It's really your personal preference how you do it!

  • echocardiographie a partagé une vidéo avec vous sur YouTube :

    “HOCM / CARDIOMYOPATHY HYPERTROPHIC”

  • You can use both view, short and long axis parasternal views, a great tool in ED to use, especially in assessment of patient with Low BP!

    Thanks very much..

  • i do it in long axis view, so this is new for me as well

  • Good video. One question: In the literature or in different courses teaches that m-mode measurement of LV should be in parasternal long axis view. You measure LV in parasternal short axis at mitral valve level...it is valid too?
