Was outside trying out my new radio and caught this Spanish/lady number station at UTC 20:00 on 7885khz. I recorded with a digital camera so the quality of it it is poor.

  • I heard the spanish lady a couple years ago and I was in edmonton alberta with an antenna

  • picked it up on 7866 khz today from hamilton ontario

  • The Russians have done the same over the decades and put on show the one time pads recovered from

their raids and investigations. The most Russian spy was Oleg Penkovsky. The Russians caught him red-handed copying the CIA broadcasts down and recovered all his one-time pads.

  • he broadcasts are unbreakable because they use one time pads. The one time pads are known only to the

handler and the spy. If proper spy tradecraft is followed then it is a perfect system. The problems occur

when the one time pads are compromised or the spy caught with the evidence. The Russians used the same system for British and American spies. Many of these were caught with the radio broadcast schedules and one-time pads

    intact. ....

  • ....Montes failed to practice proper spy tradecraft and wipe her laptop. The codes used were compromised and the instruction could then be read by those holding a copy of the broadcast. You can imagine that every Cuban broadcast is copied by U.S. intelligence for the records for the purposes of such slip ups by the likes of Montes. In the book sanctioned by the CIA it reveals the use of these one-way broadcast links used by them. They are unbreakable if the spy follows the procedures......

  • These types of transmissions have been used for decades by intelligence agencies. They use either a combination of morse code or voice or sometimes just one mode. US citizen Ana Belen Montes was caught in 2001 with her spy wear supplied by the Cubans intact. The frequency was disclosed in the recent book 'Spycraft'. Spycraft was written by Robert Wallace who is the former director of the CIAs Office of Technical services....

  • Some people believe that these "numbers" stations are codes and others believe that it is a bunch of nonsense. I kind of feel that it is the former but I do not have any proof of this. I'm not exactly sure how you can "break the code".

  • Yea, I connected to a new antenna and I stumbled on this transmission too!! It was on air for about 15 mins or so. 7888 khz 20:15UTC.
